Knock Off Toys, good or bad, whats your take? 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Hi Dudes!

Trust everyone had a good weekend! Well, as some of you would have known, I am really in need of a Star Saber and Victory Leo, preferably in MISB conditions.

I was offered a KO Star Saber which almost looks like the original, and extremely good condition, no yellowing, no missing parts etc. Anyhow I still purchased it as I just wanna sweep any Star Sabers/Victory Leos in my sight. HAHAHA. In fact, I recalled a tfw2005 article mentioning about a KO Snarl available in the market. I mean some collectors would be tempted due to the cheaper pricing. Haha, which brings me to my topic of discussion:

KO TF, whats your take? Worth a buy? Or we should just stick to official releases?

To me, it's purely variable.

If it's a G1-accurate Remake/KO being sold as a KO, it's okay.

If the seller attempts to pass it off as a Vintage original and sells it at a higher price, then it's a no-no.

Other than that, those streetside type of KOs are fine, since they do not actually purposely or successfully fool the experienced/seasoned collectors.

Personally, I got a KO Metroplex a week before Encore Metroplex was announced.
Sure made me very perplexed.

well I have no idea about the buzz of buying KOs..

for me its a preference of the originals that Hasbro and TTM churn out... esp for the original vintages.. even the very accurately made KO Mirage didnt persuade me to buy it...

but that's just me lah

Agree with the first point made by Optimus Prime. As long as seller is not trying to pass a KO/Remake as an original I'm fine with it. Before the encore series, these remakes offer collectors an opportunity to own a vintage style MISB version of G1 toys (of course there were some differences in the boxart, etc but we shadn't go into that yet). Price was of course not attractive if you compare to current encore prices but at that point of time, the prices sure beat trying to buy a real G1 toy in C8-9 MISB condition.

But with the release of Sky Lynx, Omega Supreme, etc in the encore series, there's less demand for these remakes as everyone's hoping that the toys they want will be released under the encore series.

I myself have bought a few remakes and this came about after I got the VINTAGE KO version of LioKaiser. It's almost as good as the real thing. And mind you, it's not those cheap KOs you find nowadays. This was from many many years back (thus a Vintage) and can cost up to a few hundred dollars in the proper condition. I was lucky to get both versions and after comparing them, it's consider pretty well-made. Size is the same, etc.

I've posted some pics of my Liokaiser sets in my online album.

Other vintage KOs can also be found on my online album.

Firstly, feels good to be back in Singapore. Miss visiting TF@sg. Well, my take on KOs is the same like some of the bros here. As long as it is a remake, i don't mind paying for it provided the price is not too much. Some sellers have a cheek to pass off the KOs as vintage and I really feel sorry for those who believed them, particularly the rookies.

KOs is fine as long as they reamin as KO price.

Personally, I have never seen a KO packaged as an original, so for me the only KOs I have experience with are the pasar malam types.

Would I get them? I used to say yes, but then the quality is random. At least with the originals, there may be QC issues, but at least there is QC.

And I like packaging/box art. For me, that's part of the experience, which KOs lack.

But I do get KOs for, erm spare parts, haha.

There are good, the bad, and the worst versions I have ever seen.

Here in the Philippines we got a place called Divisoria where an entire building is dedicated to anything bootleg & knock offs.

When you talk about Transformers there's definitely A LOT like over size movie versions and old ones like the series of Amara, Energon, & Cybertron. Not to forget Beast Wars, Beast Machines, & Robot Masters.

Even Binaltechs with there diecast parts too.

It's very important when you lose an EAR of a Transformer. Phew. My poor, one-eared Galaxy Convoy.

I've realized another usage for KO toys. You can have one MISB authentic in your storage place. And another KO one for display and playing, and it must looks exactly the same as ur authentic MISB ones.

Buying KOs constantly does add up in term of dollars

Why waste money by buying inferior products? A few dollars here and there does add up eventually

Save the dollars and go for the real deal

To truly call yourself a collector, you have to have and be willing to display G1 Wheelie. This will let people know you are serious about your collection.

I only use KO toys for the purpose of when i'm doing custom painting of my TFS, they really make good "guinea pigs" for you to test-run an idea on the painting itself.

Just in case u screw up, you dun feel as if you loss an expensive fig.
